Resource management is one of the most talked about topic in the ICT industry. How to handle ICT resources directly affects costs and business efficiency. The last thing service owner want is inefficient and costly infrastructure. High maintenance workload often causes inefficiency and excess costs. To liberate from own ICT infrastructure, companies are adopting IaaS, SaaS and PaaS solutions to offload server maintenance workload. Although, these services are highly useful and convenient sometimes their feature sets are not fulfilling the company’s needs. Hence, the idea of hybrid cloud was born. By taking good side of both cloud services and on-premise infrastructure, companies can reduce unwanted cost and loss inefficiencies. And have all the functionality needed to conduct its business.
What is Hybrid Cloud
Hybrid cloud is ICT infrastructure constructed by having both private on-premise and third-party public cloud service connected by wide area network (WAN).
Private infrastructures are constructed in a data center using products like VMware and OpenStack. Third-party cloud services are typically Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google GCP, Oracle cloud and more. Hybrid cloud environment is typically managed using Cloud Management Platform (CMP), which makes it capable of orchestrating and monitoring entire infrastructure at single point.
Why hybrid cloud
By utilizing services on the public cloud, companies can conduct various computation with a significant degree of flexibility, which is challenging to undertake only using in-house infrastructure. Also, private cloud or on-premise infrastructure need to be taken care not just the hardware of servers but network devices, storage devices, and all other components. Managing various type of utilities require engineers with the skill set covering all sorts of technologies and situations. It is merely heavy duty work and prone to disaster. By having the option of public cloud companies can offload some of the functionality require high technicality and cared maintenance to the public cloud.

Public cloud resources can be used as back up or secondary storage of a service. By incorporating hybrid cloud, a company will have more choice of how to plan for Disaster management and Business Continuity.

Flexibility in infrastructure is vital for innovations. However, testing new middleware and solution requires a lot of preparation and work. Public cloud services are always evolving and having access to them increase the selection of new technologies to test out.
Private cloud solutions, such as OpenStack, are a scalable solution but with a caveat of actual hardware limitation. Components require to be scale-out can be offloaded to the public cloud and be managed through CMP.

Taking advantage of fast deployment time of the public cloud can be beneficial for shrinking release time of services and making it easier for companies to respond faster to changes in market's demands.
- Need planning, how to manage
To achieve successful hybrid cloud environment planning is essential. Without planning a company faces unexpected cost and workload stressing entire business operation.
The public cloud solutions can be scaled accordingly but with a price tag. Pricing scheme can vary depending on service, and some can cost more than expected. Monitoring costs and used resources are necessary for avoiding the unwanted cost.
- Liability, discontinuation, depreciation, end-of-life
It can be said to all the third- party solution and products. When using a third-party solution such as SaaS, PaaS or IaaS check for the roadmap, the release cycle and the release policy if possible. Having a good understanding of products helps to prepare for an alternative plan when the service no longer become available.
Having two environments, both the private and the public, meaning the company needs to take care of both infrastructure and the connection in between. CMP and other management solution can mitigate some of the workloads, but there are still few to be taken care, such as authentication, user policy rules and network connection policies and more. How secure the systems are depending on the security requirements of the company.
